Bear Creek Activities
NEW BOCCE SEASON ABOUT TO START AT BEAR CREEK - Signups are now being taken at the Master Association Office for residents of Bear Creek who wish to play bocce in the upcoming season. The first matches will be scheduled for Monday, March 22nd. Schedules will be distributed a week in advance. Fees are $15 per person, payable by check to Marguerite Wilmoth. When you sign up, drop your check off too.
New players are encouraged to participate. If you want to form a team or join a team, you can do so on your own, or you can contact Rod Reynolds (677.1882) for information or help in joining the group. Also, we would like to add to our list of available substitute players.
BOWLING WITH THE BEAR CREEK LUNCH CLUB - With the current league of 10 teams almost half way through its 13 week season, sign-ups are now being taken for the next BC Lunch Club bowling league at Trevi Lanes in Lake Elsinore. The new league will start around mid-April. Fees are $12 per week and this includes your bowling fee, bowling ball, shoe rental and lunch. Our bowling day is Monday morning from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
This is strictly a fun league and new players are encouraged to join the fun. If you want to form your own team or join an existing one, you can do so by contacting Lou Wynants (600.9109), Gordon Fawcett (698.3351) or Joe Soulia (678.0726). We are also taking names of bowlers who prefer only to substitute on a team.
WATER AEROBICS AT BEAR CREEK - Bear Creek Homeowners have a very regular group of men and women who meet at the Racquet & Swim Club pool on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:15 AM to do Water Aerobics. With spring around the corner, it is a great way to meet your neighbors. However, the regular group says the pool is warm even through the winter months. It’s free! If you have any questions, call Linda Fairchild (461.0130).
MEDICAL SUPPLIES DESPERATELY NEEDED IN BELIZE
By Karen Robertson
When Karen Ganz and husband Lee Prather started visiting Belize City on the Great Barrier Reef of the Caribbean, it was for vacation. Before long, they became enamored with the people, the beauty, and the culture. The 1,500 people there are mostly Mayan natives who live in primitive shacks made from old wood and pieces of tin. They can all speak English, the official language.
Karen’s background in nursing, retail, realty, and rescue influenced her decision to buy a house and look into the medical care for these people she has grown to love. She discovered 42-year-old Nurse Judy, a volunteer who cares for the people out of a makeshift office she’s created in her garage. A traveling doctor comes once a week to a small clinic, but otherwise Judy is on her own.
Karen just couldn’t look away from the desperate need for medical supplies to help Judy. How can you help? Clean out medicine cabinets, collect unused antibiotics, antidepressants, anti-fungals, sterile pads, wound dressings of any kind, wound packs, surgical tape, and across-the-counter meds of any kind.
If you can help, call Karen Ganz at 951-696-0091. She is willing to pick up and do the shipping.
